CENTEXTRA®: THE NEXT-GENERATION CENTELLA INDENA PHYTOSOME® FOR FIRM, ELASTIC, AND RESTORED SKIN

The dermis constantly signals our internal health, but stressors like UV radiation and aging compromise its integrity. To prevent this deterioration safely, consumers and professionals seek natural ingredients that reactivate endogenous collagen.

Centella asiatica L. is highly effective here. Its active triterpenoids (madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic and asiatic acids) are scientifically proven to promote collagen synthesis, support healing, modulate inflammation, and boost microcirculation.

However, centella’s efficacy is often limited by poor solubility and absorption. To overcome this, Indena applied its Indena Phytosome® delivery system, which keeps the beneficial triterpenes intact and highly absorbable, resulting in the advanced ingredient CENTEXTRA®.

At cellular level, CENTEXTRA® INDENA PHYTOSOME® demonstrated superior biological activity than unformulated centella extract, showing enhanced antioxidant action, wound-healign efficacy, collagen level restoration[1].

A recently completed human study conducted by Indena (manuscript in preparation) demonstrated CENTEXTRA®’s superior effectiveness compared to placebo. The main endpoints are:

  • wrinkles depth in crow’s feet area: – 11 % after 28 days, – 16 % after 84 days;
  • skin elasticity: + 3 % after 28 days, + 5 % after 84 days;
  • skin firmness: + 3 % after 28 days,  + 7 % after 84 days;
  • skin thickness: + 1.8 µm after 28 days, + 2.2 µm after 84 days.

Overall, the study results show that, thanks to CENTEXTRA®, the skin gets more elastic, has fewer wrinkles, and is firmer and healthier. Moreover, Indena measured the wrinkle depth at each experimental monitored time and calculated the corresponding ages by fitting the “reference data” from the CRO archives. The evidence shows that CENTEXTRA® takes the skin back in time: its appearance looks five years younger after three months of intake.
